Mrs. Kerr's 6th Grade Science

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We have finally completed our unit on Force and Motion! Students have begun the Life Science unit by using household items to create three-dimensional models of either a plant or animal cell OR a 3D Model of the layers of the earth. We will then progress to identify the parts of a flower by viewing and discussing a video; then describe in writing and diagrams the parts and functions of a flower by conducting a dissection. Afterward, students will classify various beans using a dichotomous key. They will then proceed to dissect a bean seed in order to identify all of the parts of an embryonic plant.

Should you have any questions about your child's progress, classroom happenings, or anything else, I am more than willing to speak with you. Feel free to contact me via email at ykerr@roselleschools.org, send me a note, or call the school at 908 298 2047 to schedule an appointment. I am available after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays from 3:10 to 3:30 pm or during my Prep period from 10:15-10:45 am daily.

Please check the calendar each week for homework assignments as well as upcoming tests and quizzes. Homework accounts for 20% of your child's grade so please ensure that it is completed and handed in in a timely manner.

Sincerely,
Yvonne A. Kerr
