Mrs. Kerr's 6th Grade Science

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year. We are currently working on the scientific method and lab safety. Science started out by assuming the roles of scientists as they attempted to solve the problem,“How many candies and how many different colors are in a bag of Skittles or M&Ms?” by applying the steps of the scientific method. Students were amazed to see how many candies were actually found in a snack-sized bag of Skittles or M&Ms!  They made correlation frequency and the color by graphing the results of their experiment. In order to understand the importance of safety in the science lab, students were introduced to various real-life safety scenarios where they worked in cooperative groups to determine the best ways to solve given issues.

Should you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, classroom happenings, or anything else, I am willing to speak with you. You may contact me via email at ykerr@roselleschools.org, send in a note, or call the school at 908 298 2047 to leave a message or schedule an appointment. I am available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays from 3:10 - 3:30 pm or during my prep period from 9:30 - 10:10 am from Monday to Friday.

Please check the calendar as well as Google classroom for any homework or upcoming tests and quizzes. Please ensure that your child completes homework assignments since this is an important part of their grade.

Sincerely,
